Born and raised in Norwich, NY, Derek was engaged in sports as a youth, finding his passion for the stage and the art of dance at the age of 20. The attraction was so severe that he sacrificed medical school to pursue a career in dance. Derek graduated from Brockport College with a BA in dance in 2002. He has since performed with and choreographed for the Rochester City Ballet and the Phoenix Project Dance Theatre, both located in upstate NY. For the past two years Derek has enjoyed traveling around the globe with Pilobolus Dance Theatre. With Pilobolus, he has performed in repertoire shows, corporate functions and in 2009 collaborated in creating Pilobolus’ Shadowland: an evening length work combining virtuosic dance with shadow art. Touring with Pilobolus has taken Mr. Stratton to places like Armenia, Egypt, Finland, Mexico, much of Europe and even performed for the Queen of England in 2009.
